Merger Begins at Home : Abbey-Homedco Deal May Create ...

Image
In a move that would create the nation's largest provider of home health care services, Abbey Healthcare Group and Homedco Group on Thursday said they have agreed to merge their nationwide operations through an exchange of stock. The proposed combination of the two Orange County companies, whose headquarters are only about a mile apart, comes amid a health care business boom in the wake of government and corporate efforts to cut medical costs. By charging less than hospitals for treating patients at home, the stainless industry has grown about 25% a year and generated nearly $21 billion in sales last year. A merger of Fountain Valley-based Homedco and Abbey Healthcare of Costa Mesa would result in a company with more than $1 billion in sales and a 7% share of the industry. By eliminating overlapping operations and offices, company officials said, they expect to save at least $40 million to $50 million a year. On Wall Street, investors reacted enthusiastically. inexpensive and easy hybrid solar grid tie backup with goal zero yeti

Image
Hi there. While a 'solar battery generator ' and portable solar panels are a nice thing to have on hand for emergency backup or recreational use, letting them sit idle the rest of the time is like tossing dollars down the drain. So in this instructable, I'm going to detail a simple and easy way to put them to use that can save you just a little bit on your power bill every single day. Obviously, the "inexpensive" part of this instructable assumes you already own a Yeti and some panels. There are less expensive ways to backup your power if you don't!While I am going to refer to the Goal Zero product exclusively, this could be adapted to use with any other solar generator that meets your design specifications. Goal Zero recommends that you keep your Yeti plugged in anytime it's not in use, so utilizing it as a source of supplemental and backup power from your panels in case of an outage is perfect way to take up the slack and gain a little peace of mind in ...

How to Feel Good About Wearing Out a Battery

The move to decouple from electrical cords and outlets, starting in the 60's, has mushroomed. Beginning with improvements in standard primary (single use) cells, batteries have gotten smaller, lighter, and much more powerful. Batteries during this time frame have also taken a quantum leap forward in reliability. Reliability in this context meaning not just the ability to insert, drain and replace a battery but removing a spent set of cells and having the device in the same condition as when inserted. You've seen it that rusty, brown, toxic smelling liquid that corrodes anything it touches. This aspect was extremely costly as measured by replacement cost not only of the batteries but the entire device if not discovered in time. Primary cells, when fully discharged had to be replaced in total and consigned to your local landfill. The spent cells deteriorated over time and leached into the groundwater. Government regulators addressed this and these toxic materials were soon ban...

Stackers Arcade Game

Image
Hi guys, today I want to share with you this amazing arcade game that you can make with a bunch Ws2812b LEDs and a microcontroller/FPGA. Behold Stack Overflow - our hardware implementation of a classic arcade game. What begun as a school project quickly became a labour of love as we began to spend more and more time in developing our game and learning more from it (and neglecting our studies in the process xD). In the end, our game was so well-built and well received by our school that it was confiscated (as demo material for the next batch of student). Well, we can always build a second one. Let's get bed started!Online version of the game: a Microcontroller/Microcomputer/FPGA - The FPGA is used to implement the logic of our game. Pick your board, for our project we are required to use the Mojo FPGA board. For the uninitiated, it is a type of board that uses hardware to implement its functions rather than codes. Hence, I would say its rather low level and completely different ...
